BUILDING SELF ESTEEM DURING CHANGING TIMES

People who have spent years mastering their jobs who are then asked to do it differently have the task of unlearning old habits, overcoming a sense of uncertainty and loss of control.  They have to become accustomed to surprises.  If their confidence is running on thin ice even their confidence has to be retrained and may have to become comfortable with doing things poorly for awhile and it is all right.

Be quick to pat yourself on the back and to acknowledge peers.

                    • Recognize your uniqueness.  You bring skills to the table that are unique to you

                    • You do not have to stack up to others.  Your only competition is to be your own best self.  Competing with others is a key to mediocrity and can damage your esteem level.

                    • No matter what mistakes are made you are not a loser.  A project may not work out, but you are not a failure.  You have just learned one more way of how something does not work.

                    • Accept 100% accountability for your choices and decisions.  You create your own tensions, positive or negative, with your reactions or responses to what is happening.  Other people do not make you tense, only you can make you tense.

                    • Enjoy each day one day at a time.  Thieves that rob you of your effectiveness and damage your esteem are (1) yesterday, which is ancient history, or (b) tomorrow, which is a promissory note and guaranteed to no one.  Today is not the first day of the rest of your life.  Now is all we know we have for sure.  Mark Twain once said, Live each day in such a way that if you were to die today even the undertaker would be sad.”

                    • Talk to yourself gently and with affection

                    • Trust your intuition

                    • Be committed to developing your full potential and creativity

                    • Have fun

                    • Trust when to say yes and when to say no

                    • Choose not be a complainer.  It is harmful to you and those around you

                    • Raise your joy in living without anything special having to happen

DEEPENING YOUR LEVEL OF SELF TRUST

                    1. I love myself for who I am, and who I chose to become. I will do all that I can to meet my own needs to encourage my own transformation.

                    2.      I take responsibility for making my needs known. And have a willingness to share laughter and love.

                    3.      Clear and specific communication is vital. Unclear or unspoken communications actually interfere with your heart’s energy flow. Issues or challenges need to be addressed so that nothing gets left unfinished to later become a problem. There needs to be a willingness to create a purpose that fulfills your heart.

                    4.      Honesty is required to look at areas within that may need shifting. Create space to discover and develop my interests and abilities. Participate only in things that you enjoy and wish to be a part of because of your love.

                    5.      Be willing to try out new areas of interest and endeavors with your partner or others, but do it out of curiosity and not out of obligation.  If it does not bring you pleasure, then don’t do it. This way you honor your own desires with appreciation and no sense of judgment or deprivation.  When you do activities, do them out of your love and pleasure.

                    6.      Being a powerful relationship team requires a clear understanding about your expectations and needs are for each of you and how to handle areas of challenge as they arise. Relationships bring up many issues that need to be handled openly and honestly, and brought forth for clearing if needed. Trust builds when it is safe to face issues with no fear of judgment or criticism.

                    7.      Challenges need to be faced and dealt with immediately so they do not take on a life of their own and grow into something bigger. Otherwise they tend to build up and often surface as anger and blame.

                    8.      No one except you knows what you may have buried within you, but the energy of suppressed emotions is felt by whomever is around you and everyone suffers from it. It then distorts and disrupts the nurturing, loving, supportive environment that your heart and spirit desires.

                    9.      Curiosity does not see things as being better or worse, right or wrong. There is simply a need to create a space where the truth can be spoken without judgment so you can continue to see how to fulfill your desires.

                     10.  Acceptance and love of yourself is vital so that you can truly love another. It is an opportunity to build real trust and a sense of purpose with someone else so you can safely share who you really are with another. Together you enhance each other as you share your desires, dreams, transformation and challenges.

                    Attitude

The longer I live, the more I realize the

                    impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me is more important than facts.

It is more important than the past,

                    Then education, than money, than

                    Circumstances, than failures, than success,

Than what other people think or say or do.

It is more important than appearance,

                    giftedness or skill.

It will make or break a company,

                    a church, a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice

Everyday regarding the attitude we will

                    Embrace for that day.

                    We cannot change our past…

We cannot change the fact that people will

                    Act in a certain way.

                    We cannot change the inevitable.

The only thing we can do is play on the one

String we have, and that is our attitude…

I am convinced that life is 10% what

Happens to me and 90% how I react to it.

And so it is with you…
